Dedicated Servers are computers which are traditionally leased to customers to serve web content. A customer who leases or buys a dedicated server will be the sole user of the machine and be able to use all of its resources. This is in contrast to users who elect to use shared web hosting or a virtual (VPS or VDS) server. Dedicated servers are used primarily for serving web content, but can be used for other purposes such as game hosting. There are a wide variety of dedicated servers avaiable from providers, and these servers are available with a wide variety of features. Low-end dedicated servers might be an older model computer, with a smaller hard drive and a slower processor, which is on a slower and/or less reliable link to the internet. High-end dedicated servers can be had with top-of-the-line computers, packed with as much RAM as they can hold, with the latest and fastst CPUs.
